Do you have a backup of your website? Are you sure?
In April of 2019 a website hosting company called A2 Hosting was compromised by ransomware and lost data for website hosting customers. DNS records indicate that the hosting company may have hosted more than 200,000 domains. The customers who had their websites on the A2 servers suddenly found out that their websites were down, and they couldn’t get them back up.
According to The Register, which proclaims itself as a leading global online tech publication, the users who tried to restore backups found out quickly that the backup servers they were paying for didn’t work. A2 didn’t immediately provide recent backup restorations because they couldn’t – they weren’t backing up regularly.
What would you do in this situation if your website host lost your website, and then lost your backups?
Eventually, some users were able to restore some backup data, but it was several weeks old.
Wow.
That could cost you your business. According to Acronis, 93% of businesses file for bankruptcy within a year after they’re denied access to their data for 10 or more days.
That could be a costly risk if you host with A2.
But there is a better way.
Squidix Web Hosting provides multiple backups every week with onsite and offsite backups for our standard hosting accounts. For Free. For Life.
Why are backups important? Well, if you spent any time or money on your website, you could lose it all with malware, a disgruntled employee, bitcoin ransomware or any number of technical issues with imperfect third-party website modules, plug-ins and extensions. Or with hosting with a group that doesn’t actually backup your data.
For peace of mind, you should ensure that you are covered with a Squidix Starter Squid or Squidix Super Squid hosting account that includes backups.
Our backups are created on your server, and stored there temporarily while they are transferred to offsite, secure locations that are accessible only to Squidix staff. No middle men, no third parties and available 24/7.
Don’t leave your data in the hands of a host that can’t manage it properly.
Give us a shout if you need help migrating from A2-Hosting, migrating from Host Gator or leaving any other EIG company.
